NEWARK, NJ – Baker Mayfield is going to wake up on Sunday morning and hopefully it was all a nightmare.
BJ Goodson, who tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday, has been wiped out of his full early wide receiving corps for Sunday’s game against his 1-1 jet game as a risky close contact.
Jarvis Landry, who is battling injuries to never lose a game of his career, will lose his first match as a close contact. So will Rashard Higgins, Donovan People-Jones, Khadrel Hodge and linebacker Jacob Phillips.
Goodson will sit in the final two regular season games as a player who tests positive should miss at least 10 days.
The game will still be played, and the Brows have a chance to win the division for the first time in 18 years with a victory.
Brown was heading to New Jersey on Saturday for a game after receiving news that Goodson had tested positive. They shut down their facility and their flight was delayed as they were working through contact tracing.
The only thing that would have gone bad was if Mayfield had been in close contact.
Goodson will be replaced by Ta Davis, Malcolm Smith or MK Wilson, who were benched last week due to the coach’s decision. There’s a chance for Wilson to rid himself of the subper play and anything else he’s gotten from a healthy start last week.
“Another works well.” “A day after Goodson helped the Browns beat the Titans 51-35,” Stefansky said in December. “He is definitely an emotional leader of the defense. Listen to it before you see it. It is a boys’ rally in practice and during sports. It makes big plays in ball games that will help us win. ”
On a bright note for the Browns, left-hander Jeddick Wills Jr.’s excellent rookie season will continue unabated.
Wills was activated from the COVID-19 reserve list on Saturday and is ready to face the 1-13 Jets.
Browse also elevated center Jovan Patterson from the practice squad as a COVID-19 replacement.
It’s an important game for the 10-4 Brown, who could get their first playoff spot in 18 years with the help of their AFC rivals. The victory of the Browns and the defeat or tie by the Ravens, Dolphins or Colts, gives them access for the first time since 2002.
Willows was placed on the COVID-19 list on Thursday as a close contact with a person who tested positive for the virus outside of the Browns organization. The man was not involved in Wills’ charity event on Tuesday, in which he donated જરૂરી 50,000 in cash and cash donations to six needy families, in association with Greater Cleveland’s Urban League.
If Wills hadn’t been active, Kendall Lamme would have started the sixth year in his place. But the Browns were confident Wills would make his 15th start of the season as he tested negative for the virus.
Landry: Browns fans deserve ‘success and a promising future’
“[Wills] He played well in the last game, “said coach Kevin Stefanski on Thursday. “He has continued to improve. He is a young player. You see with young players there are some great moments and some moments that he wants to get better. The good news is that he wants to get better and before, during and after practice he works very hard with (offensive line) coach (Bill) Kallah. “
Left-back Joel Beatonio was surprised to hear Wills was on the roster on Thursday.
“That’s a big deal,” he said. “Every game is started and just focused, talk about a fraud. Is it complete? No, but the way he competes and some things he’s pro pass … a lot of the stuff he’s done is on one of the islands. It has been impressive.
“Now we have a good rapport. Me, he and Jesse (Tractor) are kind of working together on the left side, and you have a good habit of playing it. Naturally, that’s a big part of our crime and that’s a big part of why we turned the corner here. “
Wills ranks 14th in the NFL in pass-blocking, according to Profutubflofocus.com
“He just stays better in every game,” said receiver Jarvis Landry. “He’s one of those guys who holds the left side of the line all season. We need him.”
