Another week (for now) in the general shutdown of the country, and another cycle of complaints, introversion, internet fights and political conflict is underway.
At the same time that throughout Europe there is much talk about whether the confinements have an effect or if in the end the dispersion within families is not easily “collected”, in our country everything seems vague.
On the other hand, another battle has begun over who is responsible for how we got here.
The government with its new decisions transfers the responsibilities in this case to the world, that is, it restores the demand for individual responsibility and patience so as not to live worse.
On the other hand, the opposition as a whole accuses the government of not doing what it had to do to shield the country, support the NSS, carry out massive free tests to protect the population.
They could be words in the air, after all, when the opposition is in government it does different things than it says.
If we talk about the responsibilities of the government we can say a lot. And by the fact that the pressure on the NSS highlighted key and systemic problems in the health field. And for the loss in the means of transport. And for other measures, such as the fact that the virus attaches, p. in schools or stores, but does not get stuck on buses.
And for the fact that they should have been and did massive tests. And for the messages he has sent about complacency, as recently with the vaccine, with the result that people “relax.” But also due to previous mistakes, such as his inability to deal with the Church, the uncontrolled opening of tourism, the pressures to open specific economic activities, etc.
But we also have to go back to talking about individual responsibility. For what the Greek believes about the coronavirus, for how he must protect himself, for what he must do in his daily life.
And if you don’t believe in sold-out Greek politicians, let Europe take a look. One after another, countries “close again”, deaths increase, cases take off during the holidays, confinement is extended.
The third wave of pandemics, possibly with coronavirus mutations, is just around the corner in Greece.
Doesn’t each of us see all this individually? And well, the sprays will always exist and they will not even believe in the existence of the virus.
Like those who see everything as a conspiracy to control the global population. They will always exist and they will always be critical.
But, shouldn’t the large part of the population who have acted, endured, made sacrifices and feared for their own lives and the lives of others, think and see what is really happening with the pandemic?
And to explain, we also charge the government for that. We speak of more click when many stores entered and tried normally. When queues formed waiting to receive their products.
When in the province in particular there was absolutely no control over the operation of the stores.
And the citizen? Your individual responsibility? Couldn’t wait to buy shoes, coffeemakers, or televisions later? Should it have crowded the queues now, amid the pandemic? Why so much premise for the purchase of consumer products that could be made later?
And let’s go to New Years Eve. Traffic ban after 10 pm and shops closed. Was there a corpse in Athens? Of course, no. Many people, mostly in their twenties or older, left their homes and went to parties organized in basements and garages. And if we didn’t see people on the main streets, in the neighborhoods it would be a disaster.
Not to mention the incredible crowd in Syntagma the days before to take selfies with the Christmas tree lanterns.
Okay, people are bloated, they can’t stand closure, deprivation of friends, company, but what is the use of risking your life for a temporary pleasure?
If all those who lined up in the last days in the streets and squares carried the virus home, then what good is the confinement?
And here, of course, the state was absent. The controls were made with the eyes, perhaps not to spoil the festive atmosphere. But the evil may have happened and we will see it in the next few days.
Thus we reach a situation in which the aphasia of a large part of the population, combined with errors and delays in the state mechanism, make the country regress in terms of a pandemic.
And this “opening – closing” creates even greater tensions, makes citizens even more skeptical.
Therefore, we need more responsibility from the competent bodies and a greater sense of responsibility from each of us.
If now that we have reached the end and we are waiting in a few months for the immunity of the herd to be established with vaccines, we are building the immunity of the herd, then we are worthy of our destiny.
If we’re not all shocked that 50-100 people die every day from coronavirus, then we have a problem.
So let’s keep partying on the rooftops and in the basement. Let’s keep taking selfies all together and without masks in the squares.
Let the state continue to carry out alleged inspections.
But don’t cry because the pandemic is here and it kills people, but it also “kills” the economy.
