An incredible and unique experience was lived by a group of friends who went for a walk by the sea in the enchanting waters of Eastern Mani in Mezapos.
In accordance with MesseniaLiveHowever, the presence of sharks in Greek seas can be rare, but there are exceptions that have been recorded by amateur cameras in recent years.
An inflatable whale was surprised to see the inflatable passengers in front of Mezapo, a few kilometers from Gerolimenas, on the afternoon of Friday, August 28.
The whale is about 18-20 meters tall, with a huge body of great weight. I started playing in front of them for quite some time! Maneuvers, dives, and a distinctive noise it made when the water blew. Experts say she was male, as she was single and large.
The humpback whale belongs to the category of mammals “whales” just like other whales and dolphins. It is 11-18 m long. She holds the record for diving whales, as she can dive to a depth of 2,250 m.
Bellows resemble whales, but they have teeth (rather than whales), which is why they are considered relatives of dolphins. To feed on the squid, the bellows dive to a depth of 500-1,000 m. For 25-60 minutes for males and for 20-24 minutes for females, although the deepest dives recorded were close to 2,000 m and 2 hours. Blowers live 70 years or more. Males reach 18 m and 57 tons, while females 12.5 m and 24 tons.
Respectively, the physical reproductive maturity of males is 18-21 years (although they usually begin to reproduce at 30 years), while for females it is 7-13 years. The gestation period of the bellows lasts 14-16 months and they give birth to a small bellows. Females, along with their young, form social groups. Groups of females with young usually consist of 10 individuals, while males live alone. Generally, male bellows approach social groups to breed only once every three years, however exclusively in Crete, bellows breed non-stop throughout the year.
Bellows are considered endangered in the Mediterranean seas, mainly due to spawning grounds. These are thin, almost invisible nets that stretch for miles to catch tuna and swordfish. Attempts are being made to limit its use in this area. Equally great is the noise pollution caused by the maritime traffic of many Mediterranean ships. Many times the sound of boats confuses sensitive hearing fans and hits them.
