Italy will not accept bilateral agreements within the European Union on the resumption of the tourist season, Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said, warning that such a measure would destroy the single market and place Italy outside the European Union.
“We will not accept bilateral agreements within the EU that can create channels for privileged tourists,” Conte told reporters.
“This would leave us out of the European Union and we will never allow it,” he said, reiterating his opposition to the EU.
Previously, the Italian government presented a total of 55 billion euros in measures to support citizens and companies affected by the economic and social crisis caused by the pandemic.
Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte has emphasized that € 25 billion will be allocated to support workers. More specifically, the Italian Social Security Institution agrees to pay the wages of citizens whose employment is temporarily suspended, while the payment of six hundred euros is also expected to freelancers and art workers who had at least seven stamps in 2019.
“It just caught our eye then. So far, we have supported 4,600,000 workers,” said Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte.
At the same time, the Italian government will cover, until May, 60% of the rent of the stores that remained closed due to the coronation crisis. The special tax on the use of public space by cafes and restaurants should also not be paid.
In terms of tourism, the bonus of up to 500 euros is confirmed for the less affluent families, provided they spend this money on Italian tourism infrastructure. “However, the Italian government does not accept bilateral agreements between member states, which can create favorable tourist routes,” he said.
At the same time, in the measures presented tonight, a total tax deduction is foreseen, of the amount that will be spent by citizens who will decide to renew their residence this year, with ecological specifications.
The Conte government has also announced the legalization of illegal immigrants working in the agricultural sector, as well as domestic workers. “As of today, the invisible is becoming visible, the law and the state are gaining ground,” said Agriculture Minister Teresa Belanova. According to estimates in the Italian press, some five hundred thousand illegal immigrants are expected to receive temporary work permits. “The final numbers will be much lower,” he said.
As Giuseppe Conte emphasized, finally, the Italian public agrees to pay a significant portion of the money owed to private companies, while 16,000 new teachers will be hired.
