A global alert has been issued following a series of attacks in Vienna that have killed several people.
Many Greeks living in the Austrian capital are also living moments of agony, as evidenced by the shocking testimonies of an expat, whose words reflect the utter shock.
As Vassilis Karagiannidis, a Vienna resident, tells GRTimes.gr, the incident happened very close to a Greek church.
Now he is in a safe place, however, his friends, as he says, are trapped in a restaurant, very close to the place where the shooting took place. Mr. Karagiannidis claims that his friends are on the top floor of the restaurant where they are “locked up”, while policemen with automatic weapons protect them.
“They are not allowed to go out because they are relatively close and have not found the perpetrators yet,” he said.
According to Mr. Karagiannidis, “some time ago, the country’s interior minister made statements on television stations, confirming that there are injuries and deaths and that there may be a hostage-taking case in progress.”
The orders are “stay where you are and don’t go out” and those who are very close to the place of the attack are placed on the 1st floor of the restaurant, while outside there are snipers and many policemen.
In addition, the Greek resident of Vienna points out that there is great unrest in the area.
