The Ankara-Tripoli agreement is a “red line” in the eastern Mediterranean and “no one can dispute it, especially France,” said Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay.
In a statement, he noted that the US decision to lift the arms embargo on Cyprus “poisons regional peace and the environment of stability.”
He blamed some members of Congress for “continuing their efforts to destroy relations between Turkey and the United States” by blocking defense deals.
Pompeo’s intervention
Earlier, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo asked Greece and Turkey to “reduce tensions” to stop climbing in the eastern Mediterranean.
“We call on everyone to take a step to ease tensions and initiate diplomatic talks on the conflicts in the eastern Mediterranean,” he told a news conference.
