Former US President Barack Obama has joined forces with a growing number of celebrities and artists to post their phone numbers so people can send them text messages.
“Okay, let’s try something new. Send me a message at 773-365-9687. “I want to hear what you are doing, what you are thinking and how you plan to vote this year,” Obama said on his social media accounts. “I will also communicate here and there to share my thoughts.”
The former president joined the “community” of celebrities who have posted their phone numbers, including Ashton Kutcher, Jonas Brothers, Marshmello and others.
Regarding the “most important elections of our lives”, the campaigns are racing feverishly to find an answer to the new question: How do you campaign during a pandemic?
A source familiar with Obama’s plans says Democrats don’t want to leave anything to chance. To discover a new way to attract voters and secure support for their candidates, they want to move as quickly as possible to make the most of it.
“We are always motivated by a strategy of finding an audience in the ‘place’ where they are, so of course, at this particular moment, we will reach people from where they are, from their mobile phones.”
It’s a move that makes sense as Obama generally has an active account on all social media platforms, with recent efforts on Snapchat, Twitch, and YouTube. Last week, his Snapchat encouragement of the public to go to the polls received 43 million impressions and resulted in more than 13,000 new voter registrations, according to information from Fast Company.
