Joe Biden will become the 46th president of the United States, according to CNN, following his victory in the state where he was born. With the victory in Pennsylvania, he rises to the 270 electoral votes needed to win.
With Pennsylvania’s 20 electoral votes, Biden now has 273 electoral votes.
Before running for president, Biden served as vice president under former President Barack Obama. He is also the largest senator from Delaware.
Throughout his campaign, Biden argued that the “soul of the nation” was at stake and vowed to seek to heal the country devastated by the Trump presidency.
At the same time, Kamala Harris will be the next vice president of the United States.
She will be the first woman to hold the position and the nation’s first black vice president.
Harris, who has represented California in the Senate since 2017, is the daughter of Jamaican and Indian immigrants and grew up in a Black Baptist church and Hindu temple.
She was the first Indo-American woman and the second black woman to serve as a senator.
Joe Biden will speak to the public tonight, an official told CNN.
