Turkey’s testing of the Russian weapons system could have serious consequences for Ankara’s relationship with Washington, Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Rath Hoffman warned on Friday night (10/24) in a statement.
“The US Department of Defense strongly condemns the test of the S-400 system carried out by Turkey on October 16, a test that was confirmed today by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan,” the spokesman said.
“We oppose the testing of this system by Turkey, which could have serious consequences for our security relationship,” the statement added.
“An S-400 operating system is inconsistent with Turkey’s commitments as an ally of the United States and NATO,” Hoffman said.
It should be noted that the Sultan “speaking” in the United States earlier that day said that Turkey would not ask permission from anyone, especially the United States, to proceed with the testing of the S-400.
“We have every right to negotiate on Nagorno-Karabakh”
The Turkish president stressed that Ankara has every right to participate in negotiations to end the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, just like Russia.
“If Russia wants to participate in the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Turkey believes that it has the same right to participate.” Erdogan said.
