A try Stole in his somerset Massachusetts took an unexpected turn, thanks to a good heart Police officer

Somerset Police Officer Matt Lima received a call on Dec. 20 regarding an attempted robbery at Stop & Shop.

The store’s security manager said two women tried to pass some items through the register without showing them.

Lima stopped the women, who had two small children with them, when they left the store.

“I have two girls, the same age as the girls who were there,” Lima told CNNi.

Lima pulled one of the women a little closer so they could talk without the children listening. The store staff kept the kids busy.

“The woman I spoke with explained to me that she works, but the children’s mother does not work and that there are generally some family problems and the things they got were for the children’s Christmas dinner,” Lima said.

Then he looked at the receipt and discovered that the two women had bought only food.

“It was obvious that this family was in need and I put myself in their shoes. “I can’t imagine what it would be like if I had to steal to feed my children,” said the policeman.

He eventually cut them off, but didn’t arrest them for theft.

“They were very grateful and shocked.” I’m sure many people in their position would believe they would end up in jail or in court, “he said.

Lima bought a $ 250 gift card for the women to buy food at another store.
