Just 6.8 miles from Strongyli, in the Kastellorizo complex, the Turkish research ship arrived Oruc Reis at dawn on Friday, November 27. Turkish research, with its auxiliary ships Ataman Y Genghis Khan, accompanied by Turkish warships, continues seismic studies in an area of the Greek continental shelf. Earlier today, however, the Oruc Reis, as recorded by the websites that record the course of the ships, arrived just 6.8 miles south of Strongyli Island in the Kastellorizo complex. The point where Oruc Reis surveyed this morning, in a maritime area on the Greek continental shelf, was just 8 nautical miles southeast of Megisti.
At the moment, the Oruc Reis and the Turkish fleet that accompanies it are moving south, at a speed of about 4.4 knots and towards the eastern limit of the area that has been moving since last Sunday. This is the area shown in orange in the chart below, where the Turks have declared that they will continue seismic studies until midnight on Sunday, November 29.
“Turkey, from August until today, constantly intensifies its illegal actions in the Eastern Mediterranean, flagrantly violating International Law and the Law of the Sea.” “It is trying to create by force to the detriment of the EU member states. Ankara with its new illegal actions reinforces the prospect of dialogue with our country.” the chancellor stressed Nikos Dendias.
