New Turkish challenge. Despite international outcry, the historic Chora Monastery in Istanbul is being turned into a mosque, and the Turkish authorities have put up… curtains for prayer needs. According to SKAI’s Turkey correspondent Manolis Kostidis, Ankara has cited technical difficulties and the first sentence will not take place on Friday, but in the near future.
The court decision to convert the Monastery from a museum to a mosque preceded the conversion of Hagia Sophia to a mosque. A wooden pulpit has been placed in the temple, possibly for the preaching of the President of Religious Affairs Ali Erbas, as in Hagia Sophia.
The mosaics of the Chora Monastery are of unique art and technique. The Chora Monastery now belongs to the Ministry of Religious Affairs and not the Ministry of Culture.
