Battle in the ruins
The entire tsunami flooded entire districts of Izmir
According to Anadolu, Turkish rescue teams have rushed into the Sigacik and Akartsay districts, which were at the mercy of the tidal wave caused by the strong earthquake.
Ships at sea washed ashore, while in the Kaleitsi area the water level washed away cars and damaged shops located a short distance from the waterfront.
Several areas around Smyrna remain without power, as the earthquake also caused damage to the power grid.
Formerly the mayor of Izmir, Tuns Kosger, said at least 70 people were rescued from the rubble.
He said four buildings were destroyed and more than 10 collapsed, while others were also damaged.
The earthquake was particularly felt in Balikesir, Aydin and Marmara, Bursa, Canakkale, Gialova, Eski Sehir, Kiutahia and Bilecik as well as in Constantinople.
The Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, announced that the state mechanism to repair the damage has already been mobilized.
“With all the state media we support the citizens who have been affected by the earthquake. “We take steps to do the necessary work,” he said via Twitter.
Among the buildings that collapsed there is one Floor 13 building in the district Bournova of Smyrna.
Images and videos from Turkish television circulating on social media show people trying to move rubble to help them caught in the high-rise building.
