Coronavirus – All news: Turkey will impose universal weekdays and weekends curfews to stop the spread of the new coronavirus, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced today, as new cases record 19 records in recent weeks.
“Citizens will not be able to leave their homes between 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. Monday through Friday and all weekend from 9:00 p.m. Friday until 12:00 p.m. 5:00 a.m. Monday, “Erdogan explained.
“There is no other solution than to restrict the movement of citizens as much as possible,” said the Turkish president in his speech.
Some sectors, such as supply and production chains, will be excluded from the measures, which will take effect on Tuesday, the Turkish president added.
The death toll from a new coronavirus in Turkey has reached a new record for the eighth consecutive day, today, with 188 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to data from the country’s Ministry of Health.
The number of new cases, including asymptomatic ones, during the past 24 hours also rose to record levels, with 31,219 infections.
For the past 4 months, Turkey has only reported cases of symptoms, but since last Wednesday it has been announcing all infections.
The total death toll since the start of the pandemic in March is 13,746.
