Stefanos Tsitsipas’ journey to this year’s ATP Finals has come to an end.
The Greek tennis player on Thursday night was defeated 2-1 set by Rafael Nadal (6-4, 4-6, 6-2) and was excluded from the continuation of the tournament. The 22-year-old gave his all against the legendary Mallorcan tennis player and sent the match to the third set, but could not hold and bowed to the greatness of Matador. In the Greek tennis player’s next service game, however, the Spaniard created another opportunity for a break. This time, Stefanos failed to “erase” the break point, with Nadal breaking Tsitsipas’ serve and leading 5-4. The Spaniard then rose from his chair and served correctly, putting 6-4 and 1-0 in sets.
In the first game of the second set, Nadal had a break point, but Stefanos with three consecutive points brought the ups and downs and made it 1-0. Then, the two tennis players kept their serve with ease, until 5-4. There Stefanos played everything for everything and reached two break points. The Spaniard erased the first, but then made a double mistake, with the Greek tennis player taking the set 6-4 and tying the score at 1-1.
In the first part of the third set we had three consecutive breaks. Initially, Nadal broke Tsitsipas’ serve 1-0, but Stefanos responded with the same coin for 1-1. Nadal, however, with a new break led 2-1 and then served correctly for 3-1. A little later, in fact, the Spaniard again broke Stefanos’ serve and made it 5-2. The water had entered the gutter, with Nadal taking the set 6-2 and with him the classification for the 4 finalists of the tournament.
