Sotiris Tsiodras’ concern about the pressing situation in the health system was conveyed during today’s briefing on the course of the pandemic in Greece by Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias.
The situation is worrying in West Attica, while hospital admissions in the past 3 days are roughly equal to discharges.
More new cases occur in the last 7 days per 100,000 residents in Pieria, Drama, Kilkis, Pella, Xanthi, Imathia, Thessaloniki, Larissa and Florina prefectures.
The age distribution of cases in the ages of 75 and over and 65 to 74 years shows an increase in the last month of 5%, while the majority of cases are now distributed in the ages of 40 to 64 years.
Regarding ICUs, 83% of the beds in the territory are occupied, in Attica the ICU coverage rate is 77% and in Thessaloniki 91%.
The Minister of Health in a dramatic tone posed the question to citizens if with full hospitals and ICUs we will support our fellow man or we will behave irresponsibly counting only ourselves.
In view of the holidays, he stressed that the easiest way is to have a transmission inside the house and called on citizens to protect the elderly.
