Tsakris in SKAI: Lockdown possible in Attica – What will be a bell

Athanasios Tsakris, Professor of Microbiology at the University of Athens, spoke with SKAI about the new emergency measures and the closure in Thessaloniki.

The professor stressed that “a crash is also possible in Attica”, with the data we have so far.

He also noted that “now the true second epidemic wave begins.”

As he explained, seasonal coronaviruses begin at the end of October and last until March-April.

By contrast, the flu epidemic is shorter and starts later.

“The big problem is not just the cases, but also how long the healthcare system will last,” said Mr. Tsakris, adding that this will be the “bell” for Attica.

“If society complies, the epidemic will be reduced.” The situation, however, is also complicated by weather conditions, as you mentioned.

In a week we will have a first picture of the performance of the measures, while the measures will be reassessed next week, mainly for focus. The use of a mask as a measure will accompany us for a long time, while in summer things will be smoother.

“The mask protects so that we have a lower viral load. “The colder the weather, the easier it is for the virus to multiply.”

Finally, he said that MMM is a point that needs a lot of attention and added that teleworking will play a very important role.
