Trump nominates conservative Amy Coney Barrett for Supreme Court

Donald Trump announced Saturday night that he would nominate conservative Justice Amy Coney Barrett to the United States Supreme Court, ushering in an explosive political period as the proposal comes just before the November 3 election.

Justice Barrett is known for her conservative views, such as her opposition to abortions and her position that she will consolidate a strong conservative majority with 6 seats to 3 Democrats on the Supreme Court.

Trump’s proposal came a week after the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bender Ginsburg, an iconic figure in the Democratic and progressive space.

Republicans have said they will support President Trump’s proposal and run to approve the appointment of Judge Barrett before the Nov.3 election. Never before in the history of the United States has a Supreme Court been appointed so close to the presidential election.

This development is expected to intensify the pre-election period.
