Donald Trump entered the White House with the central motto “America first!”. In its day, however, the United States became by far the first country in the world in terms of COVID-19 price. Although it represents only 5% of the world’s population, it mourns a quarter of all the victims in the universe. With the economy in an artificial coma and jobs declining at an unimaginable rate, more than 26 million layoffs in a month, the Republican president has every reason to worry about the November presidential election. The latest poll, published by The Wall Street Journal, gave Joe Biden a 7-point lead, which in the meantime managed to unite all Democrats around him, from Barack Obama to Bernie Saunders.
Faced with the great crisis that will seal his presidency, Trump has shown the same ridiculous transformations to which he has been accustomed all along. The man who lightly said that COVID-19 is nothing but a “flu” is now talking about a terrifying pandemic and brags that he was the first, or rather the only one in the world to treat it on time and decisively. As the evergreen said at the age of 92, Noam Chomsky: “Whatever happens, one day he will make a statement justifying it. If you shoot the koutourou, a parasite will achieve its goal.” At those times, a scapegoat is a solution. Trump managed to find not one, but several. First on the list is China. From the first moment the epidemic broke out in the United States, Trump stigmatized the “Chinese virus” and recently began threatening Beijing with sanctions. In fact, a few days ago, the Republican Attorney General of Missouri filed a lawsuit in federal court against China, accusing it of false information and insufficient measures to contain the epidemic. Nearby is the World Health Organization, to which Trump has suspended funds, portraying him more or less as a puppet of Beijing. As for the blatant deficiencies of the United States in masks, respirators, and diagnostic tests, he blamed his predecessor Barack Obama, even though he is in his fourth year in the White House.
Over the past week, Democratic state governors have been added to scapegoats. It hasn’t been long since Trump claimed he had “absolute power” to lift restrictive measures in any state, bypassing governors, ready to play Russian roulette with public health to revive the economy (and his election campaign) . On the rails, he soon realized that such a constitutional coup would be out of luck, so he tried to incite a movement of “outraged citizens” against the restrictive measures.

Meanwhile, the controversy over restrictive measures is turning into a new “culture war”. In Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, some banners read “Communism kills more than COVID-19” and “My shot is Jesus Christ.” In Denver, Colorado, star-studded homeless (elsewhere had South American civil war flags) denounced nurses with masks lined up in front of them, shouting, “You work, we don’t!” Go to China if you want communism! “In some states, some of the protesters were wearing carbines or belts with explosives, calling for freedom of possession of weapons. Conservative activists protested to the Denver Post that” while abortion clinics and hashish shops are open, our churches are closed ” The very people who deny climate change are challenging science and, in the case of COVID-19, are calling for the removal of Dr. Anthony Faucchi, world leader of White House medical personnel, and applaud a president who defends effective defense virus, disinfectant injections and exposure to tanning beds.
The last link in this paranoia was Trump’s decision to suspend the entry of immigrants indefinitely so they don’t take the jobs of the laid-off American workers, he says.
