A fleet of small boats formed in support of Republican President Donald Trump’s re-election campaign on Nov. 3 fought in Texas on Saturday as many of them flooded or sank.
The Travis County Sheriff’s Office “responded to numerous calls for help from sailors in distress during their parade for (President) Trump on Lake Travis,” he said on Twitter, adding, “Many ships sank.”
According to Sheriff Kristen Dark, a spokeswoman for the office, no evidence was found that anything suspicious had happened. No injuries or medical emergencies were reported during this boat parade on Lake Travis, northwest of Austin.
“Some poured water, some froze, some turned, a lot of different things happened,” Kristen Dark explained.
Photographs uploaded to the social network Twitter show floating banners in support of the Trump campaign in the turbulent waters of the lake, possibly due to the large number of boats sailing at the same time, very close to each other.
“There were an extremely large number of boats on the lake today,” Dark explained, adding that authorities still counted how many boats sank and how many people were rescued.
More than 2,500 people reported on Facebook that they participated in the three to five kilometer boat parade, according to Ms Dark.
