Outgoing Republican President Donald Trump and former Democratic Vice President Joe Biden appear to be fighting a hand-to-hand battle in Arizona and Florida, according to a new Reuters and Ipsos poll.
The poll examines the intention to vote in six states – Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Michigan, North Carolina, Florida and Arizona – that are expected to play a crucial role in the Nov.3 election.
According to responses given online by potential voters, in Florida the two opponents have the same percentage, 47%. When asked which of the two will better handle the Covid-19 pandemic, they reached a tie, with a 46% percentage. More than half (51%) believe that Trump manages the economy better, and only 41% said Biden would do better in this area.
3% of the voters surveyed have already voted.
In Arizona, Biden is slightly ahead, at 47%, compared to Trump’s 46%. 47% believe the Democratic candidate would be better at handling the pandemic, compared to 44% for Trump. Also in this state, voters believe that the Republican businessman manages the economy better (49% compared to 44% for Biden). 3% have already voted.
The two candidates are tied in North Carolina, at 47%, where 4% of voters have already voted. Biden leads Michigan (49% vs. 44%), Wisconsin (48% vs. 3%) and Pennsylvania (49% vs. 46%). In all of these states, voters believe Biden would be better handling the pandemic and Trump better handling the economy.
Reuters / Ipsos surveys are conducted online in English in all six states. In Arizona and Florida there is also a questionnaire in Spanish.
