Thessaloniki: tension outside the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki between police and young people

A MAT platoon tried to prevent a large group of people from entering the premises of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

The police did it use of chemicals and lightning bombs, while the youths threw stones at the MAT men.

Information from the local media indicates that some young people managed to enter the AUTh facilities.

It existed from an early age intense police presence outside the AUTh and the information indicated that there would probably be a police raid in order to put an end to the occupation of the AUTh Rectorate.

People participating in the occupation and in solidarity had gathered in front of the AUTh Rectorate building, shouting slogans against police violence and the law of the Ministry of Education.

Police proceeded with five arrests.

At the University there was a SYRIZA Delegation – Progressive Alliance, made up of deputies Giannis Amanatidis, Katerina Notopoulou and Dora Avgeris, together with the Coordinator of the party’s Thessaloniki Prefectural Committee, Costas Abatzas, Ifigenia Kamtsidou, etc. In their statements, the deputies demanded the withdrawal of the police.

Just before 10:30 am the police forces left, to return a little later.
