Thessaloniki is expected to enter level 4 of the highest risk, after the jump in cases detected in the city and throughout the country in the last 24 hours.
After the sad record of 1,547 coronavirus cases in the country and 384 cases in Thessaloniki, the Infectious Diseases Committee was summoned to an extraordinary meeting to discuss suggestions for the imposition of new restrictive measures. Among them are the closing of the restaurant at 9:00 p.m., the ban on traffic outside the prefecture, and the ban on traffic before 00:30 that is in effect today.
Especially for the city of Thessaloniki, the possibility of jumping to higher risk level 4 is being considered with all the restrictions that apply in this category and of course the mandatory use of a mask indoors and outdoors.
In this context, EODY President Panagiotis Arkoumaneas is expected to be in Thessaloniki urgently. However, announcements about Thessaloniki are expected to be made tomorrow or Friday at the latest.
At the same time, the Kozani and Kastoria areas are already at level 4 (red), while the implementation of the blockade in Serres and Ioannina begins on Thursday.
Gogos: “We are neither near nor far from the confinement”
Meanwhile, Professor Charalambos Gogos in a television interview, referring to the possibility of a confinement, replied that we are neither near nor far from such a possibility, since it is an unpredictable disease. He explained that at this time we will try to get to the good stage by taking quick steps that could correspond to a later period.
For the focus, he explained that if the distances between the seats are met, it will not be necessary to reduce their opening hours and that a combination of complementary measures is being considered.
Regarding the ban on moving from one prefecture to another, Mr. Gogos said that this is something that is being discussed and that it may be necessary to implement it especially in northern Greece.
For the use of the mask, he emphatically emphasized that it is useful in any color and in any area and for the entire phase of the epidemic. “Things are so bad that we have to use it inside and out,” he said.
