Delivery of a baby positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus by a mother with a Covid-19 infection who fled yesterday at “Attica Hospital ». The baby was born in the 3rd Clinic of Obstetrics and Gynecology, of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (EKPA), in the PGN “Attikon”
This is the first time that a baby has been born with a positive molecular test for the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus from a mother with an escaped Covid-19 infection. The pregnancy was 37 weeks with a history diabetes of pregnancy. The mother developed a fever and cough 8 days ago. Both she and her husband underwent molecular tests by RT-PCR, which resulted positive for both.
Yesterday, the mother arrived at the Attica Hospital with delivery and the molecular test was weakly positive, indicating that the Covid-19 infection is in escape.
The baby, weighing 3,410 grams, was transferred to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for follow-up. The delivery was by caesarean section, which eliminates the possibility of vertical transmission during delivery. To date, all newborns at Attica Hospital of mothers with Covid-19 infection have tested negative on repeat molecular tests.
