With bad weather, it “makes” a foot in 2021, since since the first days of the new year, several areas of the country are affected by severe meteorological phenomena.

Earlier, the National Weather Service issued an emergency bulletin warning of the change in weather since Sunday night (3/1), which brings heavy rain and hail even in Attica.

Analytically:

TO. Heavy rains and especially sea-coastal storms, which will be accompanied in some places with hail, will affect:

  1. Sunday (03-01-2021)
  • From the afternoon to the Ionian Islands and from late at night to Epirus, Western Sterea and Western Macedonia.
  • In these areas, a weakening of the phenomena is expected from noon on Monday (01-04-2021).

2) Monday (04-01-2021)

  • From the morning hours in central Sterea, the western and eastern Peloponnese, with the weakening of the phenomena from the afternoon hours and central Macedonia at intervals.
  • From noon in eastern Sterea (including Attica), eastern Macedonia, Evia, Sporades and temporarily Thessaly with weakening of the phenomena on Monday night (04-01-2021)
  • In the afternoon to Thrace and the islands of the North Aegean.

MACEDONIA, THRACE

  • Weather: Cloudy with heavy rains and thunderstorms gradually weakening from midday and from the northwest. Snowfall will occur in the mountains of the continent of the northern regions, which will be dense until noon in the mountains of Epirus.

THE CLIMATE IN CYCLADES AND CRETE

  • Weather: Overcast skies temporarily increased with local rains. The effects of the afternoon will intensify and there will be thunderstorms, which at night in the north of the Cyclades will be strong.
  • Winds: South southeast 5 to 7 and temporarily up to 8 Beaufort. From the afternoon and from the west they will turn to the west southwest and weaken.
  • Temperature: From 14 to 18 and in the north of Crete up to 21 degrees Celsius.

EAST EEGEUS ISLANDS, DODECANESE

  • Climate: Light clouds that will gradually thicken and there will be local rains mainly in the islands of the eastern Aegean. Starting in the afternoon there will be sporadic thunderstorms in strong places in the north.
  • Winds: Southeastern 4-6, gradually 6-8 and temporarily overnight north until 9 Beaufort.
  • Temperature: 12 to 20 degrees centigrade. In the north, the maximum is 2 to 3 degrees lower.

SAMOS

  • Weather: Scattered clouds that will gradually thicken and there will be local rains and thunderstorms starting in the afternoon. The effects of the afternoon hours will be strong in some places.
  • Winds: Southeast from 5 to 7 and in the afternoon from 6 to 8 Beaufort.
  • Temperature: 13 to 18 degrees Celsius.

THE WEATHER IN ATTICA

  • Weather: Cloudy with rains and heavy storms in some places in the noon hours. Gradual weakening of the phenomena in the afternoon.
  • Winds: South southeast 5-6 and midday-afternoon 6-8 Beaufort. From the afternoon they will turn to the west and weaken.
  • Temperature: 12 to 18 degrees Celsius.

THESSALONIKI

  • Climate: Cloudy with rains and storms mainly on the sea coast. The effects are likely to be intense during the midday hours. A gradual improvement is expected starting at night.
  • Winds: From south 4 to 5 and temporarily until 6 Beaufort, which from the afternoon will turn west northwest with the same intensity.
  • Temperature: 10 to 12 degrees centigrade.

On alert for bad weather

The General Secretariat of Civil Protection (www.civilprotection.gr) of the Ministry of Civil Protection, has informed the competent state services involved, as well as the regions and municipalities of the country, in order to be more alert to civil protection, in order to immediately address the effects of severe weather.

At the same time, the General Secretariat of Civil Protection advises citizens to be very careful, taking measures to protect themselves from the dangers derived from the occurrence of severe weather events.

In particular, in areas where heavy rains, thunderstorms or hurricane-force winds are forecast:

  • Secure items that, if swept away by severe weather, could cause damage or injury.
  • Make sure gutters and gutters in houses are not blocked and are working normally.
  • Avoid crossing streams and streams, on foot or by vehicle, during storms and rain, but also for several hours after the end of your event.
  • Avoid field work and activities in the sea and coastal areas during severe weather (risk of lightning strikes).
  • Take immediate precautions during a hail storm. Take cover in a building or car and do not leave the safe area until you are sure the storm is over. Hail can also be very dangerous for animals.
  • Avoid passing under large trees, under hanging signs, and generally in areas where light objects (eg flowerpots, broken glass, etc.) can break off and fall to the ground (eg under balconies). .
