The coronavirus vaccine was administered a few hours ago at the “Attikon” hospital by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, sending the message to all Greeks that the vaccines are safe and will mark the end of the pandemic.
The Prime Minister was received by the Secretary General for Primary Care of the Ministry of Health, Marios Themistokleous, accompanied by Professor Sotiris Tsiodras.
Mr. Mitsotakis, after following the procedure established in the protocol, completing the corresponding document, was vaccinated and then went to a waiting room, where he will remain for 15 minutes, according to the provisions of the protocol, for security reasons.
After the prime minister, Mr. Tsiodras will be vaccinated
“I believe that today all Greek men and women are smiling under our masks as the difficult project of mass vaccination of the Greek population with the covid-19 vaccine begins in our country,” the Prime Minister stressed after the vaccination, adding that “The state and political leaders are the first to get vaccinated to set an example that the vaccine is safe and effective.”
“The first health workers are also vaccinated with us. We owe them a lot and they have to get vaccinated first to be safe. In the coming months, the goal is to vaccinate the vast majority of the population. As we move forward, those of our fellow citizens who are suspicious will be convinced that this is the only way to regain control of our lives, so that economic activity can move forward again. To be able to write new pages of optimism in the history of our place again this emblematic year. Happy birthday everyone “.
After the prime minister, Mr. Tsiodras will be vaccinated.
The vaccination of the President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, had preceded a little earlier.
It is recalled that vaccination against the coronavirus in our country began today at 1:00 p.m. with Efstathia Kampisiouli, ICU nurse at the Evangelismos Hospital.
“I think a lot of people are jealous of me today because they would like to be in my place” was the phrase Ms. Kampisiouli used to describe her feelings.
“This is a very symbolic move, as doctors and nurses have been on the front lines since the beginning of the pandemic,” the first man in the country to be vaccinated told ERT.
As for how she was selected, she said that she is on the front lines of the fight against the coronavirus, however she does not know by what criteria she was chosen to have this honor.
At 1:30 p.m., the second person in Greece was vaccinated. This is Michalis Giovanidis, 88, a guest in a Care Unit for the Elderly.
