At a time when the country is in the fourth week of blockade, the epidemiological data of the last days is worrying experts and scientists, setting new negative records.
The number of intubated patients in the Intensive Care Units “amounted” to 622 patients and the pressure on the National Health System remains at high levels. At the same time, new incidents are not slowing down at a “satisfactory” rate – moving steadily in the 1,800 to 2,000 range – holding back any thought the government might have to come up with a roadmap out of the regime of strict restrictive measures and the opening of social and economic policy activity.
In fact, at noon on Thursday Government spokesperson announces closure extension until 6 am December 14, noting that the gradual opening of the country is moving away in time, taking into account epidemiological data. As you said, there is a stabilization or reduction of cases, but at a slower rate than expected.
The last 24 hours 1,882 new cases were registered, while there were 100 deaths, with a death toll reaching 2,706. Intubated patients number 622.
Thessaloniki and Attica continue have a high viral load, registering 428 and 334 new cases, respectively.
Vaccination planning in Greece
in the meantime Government preparations are in full swing for the large vaccination project, which will begin in our country as soon as the first shipments are received, something that will happen immediately after the competent European authorities give the corresponding approval.
The government spokesman reiterated this Thursday that “vaccination will be voluntary and free,” adding that “there will be an effort and a campaign to convince our fellow citizens of its safety and effectiveness.”
Continuing with vaccinations, Stelios Petsas highlighted that 1,018 vaccination centers are already being established throughout Greece so that vaccination can begin after the first reception. So, according to the first estimate, around 2,117,440 citizens will be able to get vaccinated every month.
He added that “even if more vaccines arrive, in the same month, there may be, if necessary, further development of the plan to create additional vaccination centers.”
For his part, however, The Minister of State, George Gerapetritis, spoke about the vaccination of 1 million citizens per month. Commenting that the United States and the United Kingdom start before the European Union, the minister referred to “very strict” European rules in approving the preparations. “Safety should not be sacrificed for speed, on the other hand, we cannot be too late,” he said, adding that he felt the EU might revise its schedule due to pressure from the US and UK.
