A vulgar comment by “Kathimerini” columnist Stefanos Kasimatis about SYRIZA MP Giorgos Katrougalos provoked justified reactions, forcing the newspaper to apologize.
Stefanos Kasimatis, who later claimed he did not know, mocked Mr. Katrougalos for his appearance and posted a photo of his presence in Parliament during the debate on the ratification of the EEZ delimitation agreements with Italy and Egypt.
The SYRIZA deputy and former minister bravely faces a serious health problem, continues to carry out his duties and this is known in journalistic circles.
Kasimatis’ comment, which need not be reproduced, was heavily criticized and friends, as well as political opponents of George Katrougalos, were quick to stigmatize it.
After the reactions, the columnist tried to rebuild himself by attributing what he did to “innocence.”
In Friday’s photo I made a serious mistake because of my innocence. I therefore owe an apology both to George Katrougalos himself and to the readers, as he did not know (nor could he guess, hence the innocence) The former minister’s hair loss is due to the treatment he received earlier this month to treat a health problem, and I was informed that his doctors had advised him to stay home until mid-September, but he felt compelled to do so. “He will be present in Parliament, as SYRIZA has no more experts on Greek-Turkish affairs. I wish him with all my heart a lot of strength and a good recovery. He will come back strong and strong,” the columnist said.
The “Kathimerini” newspaper also apologized for Kasimatis’ vulgar comment.
“K” apologizes to Mr. George Katrougalos for the photo and the accompanying comment in today’s issue of the newspaper. Although it is obvious that the columnist was not aware of Mr. Katrougalos’s health adventure, it matters that it is “that it will not be repeated,” he said in a statement.
George Katrougalos, for his part, thanked those who opposed the immoral attack he received.
