The ICU map across the country: how many beds are still empty

The rapid increase in the number of hospital admissions in recent years and especially the number of patients admitted to intensive care units was one of the factors that motivated the decision on the new general ban. As the pressure on the healthcare system intensifies significantly, it is worth seeing how the map is set up with ICUs across the country.

There are currently a total of 1,063 ICU beds in operation throughout the country. Of these, according to sources from the Ministry of Health, 734 are occupied and 329 are vacant (31%). The total number of beds available nationwide for confirmed COVID-19 cases is 4,452.

There are 2,059 patients with COVID-19 currently in treatment (total ICU, MAF, MEL, negative pressure chambers and individual beds).

More detail:

There are currently 643 non-COVID ICUs, 475 are occupied and 168 vacant (26%). Currently there are 420 UCI-COVID. Of these, 259 are occupied and 161 are vacant (38%). The ICU-COVID serving the needs of Thessaloniki (including Halkidiki and Kavala hospitals) are currently 124. Of these, 93 are occupied and 31 are vacant (25%).

In the Hospitals of Attica, the ICU-COVID are currently 168. Of these, 112 are occupied and 56 vacant (33%).

The total number of beds available nationwide for confirmed COVID-19 cases is 4,452.

It is highlighted that according to an announcement from the Ministry of Health starting tomorrow, Monday, 300 new permanent doctors will take over the service in the country’s hospitals, especially for the needs of the ICU.
