His resignation was presented by the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Cinema Center on Monday night.

In a letter to the Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni, the members of the Board indicate, among other things, that the conditions that have been created for the Special Program of the Ministry of Culture to Strengthen the Cinematographic Community make it impossible for the organization to function.

The co-signatories of the letter also refer to the “constant defamatory and offensive attacks” that, they report, have been received “by unions and individuals of field filmmakers” and emphasize that with the existing legal framework and their “commitments and bureaucratic anchors “the ECC” cannot function effectively and successfully. ”

In detail, the resignation letter is as follows:

Honorable Minister,

The members of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Cinema Center present our resignation, since the conditions that have been created for the Special Program of the Ministry of Culture for the Support of the Cinematographic Community make the subsequent functioning of the Board impossible, of which we are members. As an indication, we point out the constant defamatory and insulting attacks that we have received from filmmakers’ unions but also from individuals on the ground, their appeals to national and international authorities, their statements on the massive appeals to Justice, the misery they publish on the internet, Submissive publications on websites and newspapers, etc.

At the same time, we remind you that with the current legal framework and its multiple commitments and bureaucratic entanglements, as well as its internal shortcomings, the Hellenic Cinema Center cannot function effectively and successfully, especially in the face of a program of 1,400 applications, which in a month It had to be processed, when it manages with difficulty about 300 proposals a year and those that present delays. And this with the large additional contact and direct communication problems created by the pandemic and the lockdown. So far, we have done everything possible to complete the Special Program, despite its enormous difficulties. But we didn’t find any response from the filmmakers themselves. On the contrary, the constant attacks and moral and offensive threats against us have invalidated these efforts.

Finally, with his opinion of 9/21/2020, EKK’s Legal Counsel made it clear and warned the members of the Board that in the Special Program and the new second phase announced by the Ministry of Culture, there are evident illegal and flagrant procedures and flagrant violations of the principle of equal treatment and fair competition, which could lead to a repressive control of financing by the Court of Accounts, as well as the legality and conclusion of the National Transparency Authority, to which a group has appealed union film.

In these circumstances, resignation is now a one-way street for Board members, as well as our refusal to approve the disbursement by the EKK of not even one euro of funding provided by the Ministry of Culture, to not create problems that will eventually be decided. courts, but after many years of suffering from everyone involved. Wishing you much success in your work, thank you for our cooperation so far.
