The former president and 2 members of the Board of Directors of the Athens Nursing Home are guilty of irregularities

The former president and two former members of the Foundation’s administration were found guilty of criminal irregularities at the Athens Nursing Home in 2008-2013.
At Three-member criminal appeal court The case of the enormous economic damage suffered by the institution, due to a series of irregularities in financial management in the period 2008 to 2013, was judged.
The court after the prosecutor’s proposal found the presiding priest guiltyfrom the Charitable Association “Mercy Society of Athens-Nursing Home-Hospice”, as well as the vice president and the treasurer, members of the Board of Directors during the period in question, for the crimes of infidelity and embezzlement up to the degree of felony, conspiracy and persistence.
The case of the administration of the finances of the nursing home had been investigated by the Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, following an order from the then prosecutor. Eleni Raikou, who in July 2015 proceeded to criminal proceedings against the three officials to whom they attributed lots of arbitrariness and opaque procedures in finances that led the institution, its employees and prisoners to a marginal economic situation.

From the data collected by the Corruption Prosecutors it appears that the three Foundation officials left properties belonging to the Home for the Elderly in disuse, which they either did not rent at all, leaving them without maintenance, or rented to people in their circle with incomes minimal. Likewise, among other things, the record indicates that amounts in excess of 10 million euros have been withdrawn from the institution’s accounts through illegal procedures, while in the accounts of the accused, amounts of up to 200 thousand euros were found, which were not justified by the income they declared.
