Shortly after 8.30 pm on Tuesday a fire broke out in a forest area a short distance from the Reception and Identification Center for refugees and immigrants in Samos.

According to estimates by the authorities, the fire is most likely due to arson, while a few hours ago the Police arrested six young foreigners, who are staying at the KYT and are being examined for their possible involvement in the case.

The fire broke out on a hill near KYT and burned oak trees and other low vegetation.

However, according to the Fire Department, it presents a much better picture, since it does not blow in the area, a fact that facilitates the work of the firefighters and does not threaten the KYT.

40 firefighters with nine vehicles try to put out the fire.

It should be noted that the fire broke out around 8 pm while there is relative apnea in the area.

According to samiakonvima, the fire broke out on the north side of KYT Samos.

Since Tuesday morning, there has been a KYT sanitary blockade, but it is difficult to control as the majority of the total population of some 5,000 asylum seekers lives in the countryside around the structure.

Fifty (50) samples were received and shipped to Athens on Tuesday, with results expected tomorrow Wednesday.

According to information from “Kathimerini”, a small “uprising” is also taking place in the Leros prison, a fact that has not been evaluated, until now, as worrying.
