Without military and student parades, this year the anniversary of October 28 will be celebrated, while all the events that take place, i.e. doxologies and wreath laying, will be held with a limited number of people for public health reasons and under strict compliance with health regulations.
Specifically, as mentioned in a circular from the Ministry of the Interior, in the city of Athens wreaths will be placed on the monument of the Unknown Soldier, while in the city of Thessaloniki a wreath will be placed on the Hero of the 3rd Corps of Army by the President of the Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou.
“The national anniversary of October 28, 1940 has a special value for our country, remembering the resistance of our country against fascism and Nazism and the struggles of the peoples for democracy and human dignity. The cancellation of the parades in no way devalues and lowers the prices owed to the fighters, heroes of the Epic of 1940. As an indication of a minimal tribute, we call on all government agencies, regions, municipalities and citizens to raise the flag Greek in its service workshops. and their addresses respectively ”emphasizes the Ministry of the Interior in the circular issued.
At the same time, the flag raising, according to decision No. 67271 / 13.10.2020, is general and three days from the morning of October 8, 26 to sunset of October 28, while for the city of Thessaloniki four days from October 25.
In addition, on the night of October 27 and 28, towns and villages will be illuminated.
Furthermore, as government spokesman Stelios Petsas stated a few days ago, the eulogy for the national anniversary day on October 28 will be held without the presence of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and other members of the government.

Likewise, with regard to schools, the events for the celebration of the national holiday on October 28 will be held by section and will have a minimum duration of two hours. Specifically, as mentioned in a relevant circular from the Ministry of Education:
1. In all DE school units Holiday events take place on the eve of the anniversary. For the 2020-21 school year these events will take place on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 within each department. The delivery of the flag by the director of each school unit to the standard bearer will be carried out in the presence of representatives of the teachers and students / three, observing the necessary personal protection measures.
2. These events will have a minimum duration of two (2) teaching hours.
3. Once the anniversary celebration is over, each section will award prizes for excellence, praise for personal improvement and special praise for the students of the 2019-20 school year. The Director of the school unit, in collaboration with the College of Teachers, will be in charge of determining how to grant these honorary distinctions to the graduates of the 2019-20 school year, in order to comply with all the prescribed protection measures against Covid-19.
4. Likewise, a circular from the Ministry of the Interior is taken into account that refers to the non-holding of student parades for the celebration of the anniversary of October 28. It follows that no preparations will be made for the selection of students for the formation of the parade sections. Regarding the representation of school units with the participation of flag-bearers and assistants in festive events (Doxology, placement of floral wreaths, etc.), it will be carried out in compliance with the measures in force to limit the spread of Covid-19 entitled ” Standards for other measures throughout the territory to limit the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus “.
