The epidemic wave is at high levels

At constant but high levels, it remains epidemic wave of coronavirus in our country, with those in charge of observing with incessant anxiety and interest its evolution and direction. One more day, the number of new coronavirus cases exceeded 400, with half being detected, as has been the case in recent weeks, in Athens.
The basin currently has 194 cases. There is also a slight circulation of the virus in 35 other regional units of the country.

In the basin the expert-based alarm level is orange, a level prior to the so-called red alert, and concern is intensifying in decision-making centers about the implementation of new measures, such as the mandatory – and not the strict recommendation that applies today – the use of a mask. At present, the main argument of the authorities is that there is no exponential increase in cases, which would immediately lead to the mandatory use of a mask. In neighboring Italy, however, this measure has already been applied.

Experts expect the decline of the epidemic wave in Attica in a longer period of time than the usual recorded in parts of the Region. For example, if it took a month or more for an area like Xanthi, in Attica it will take at least twice as long, always starting with the implementation of measures.

“We hope that in large urban centers, such as Attica, the epidemic will be much more difficult to control.” The response of these centers to the measures is slower, “he said yesterday. Professor Gikas Majorkinis.

35 areas on the epidemiological map of the country

The points that … redden the epidemiological map of the country are constantly increasing. In addition to the Attica region, there are currently 35 other areas on the map showing the areas in question. It is recalled that several areas are subject to greater epidemiological surveillance, the last to be incorporated into this regime are Achaia, Ioannina and Kozani.

Of the 380 domestic cases, 56 are connected by a seriesς. The 27 cases are imported,

Attica still has the negative advantage today, with 194 cases of which 18 are associated with known influxes, while 11 report recent travel within the country.

They are followed by Kozani (29 cases) and Ioannina (26) according to the daily number of new cases. In both cases there is a small outbreak of new infections.

With a two-digit number of cases, the Thessaloniki (sixteen).

In the next place in this ranking is Evia with 12 cases and with 11 Achaia.

Trikala and Corinth register 8 cases and Etoloakarnania 7.

Six cases are registered in Imathia and as many in Pella. Five cases were recorded in Lesbos and Pieria.

In Boeotia, three cases are reported, associated with the well-known funeral procession.

Of 2 cases were confirmed in PE Kilkis, Larissa, Xanthi, Fthiotida, Chios. And finally, from 1 case in PE Evros, Ilia. Heraklion, Thira, Corfu, Kos, Laconia, Lassithi, Magnesia, Naxos, Preveza, Samos, Tinos, Fokida, Halkidiki, Chania, Argolida.

Concern about dispersion in the near future

Meanwhile, experts are expressing concern about a possible deterioration of the country’s epidemiological image in the near future following today’s grandiose meeting outside the Athens Court of Appeals for the judicial decision on the Golden Dawn.

“Such a large crowd in such a small space in today’s epidemic conditions is a health bomb” tells protothema.gr the professor of pulmonology, Theodoros Vasilakopoulos. He explains that “it can lead to many different chains of transmission, as thousands of people gathered there from different parts of Attica, possibly from other parts of the country, to which they will return after this meeting.”

The effect, according to the teacher, will be seen in a week or two. “If there were super-transmitters, two, three, eight and ten people could be trapped by a single pro-transmitter. Now, the obvious and requested by the people who attended the rally today is to protect others, their families, their work and remain isolated for the next period. Do not risk transmitting the coronavirus to an elderly or vulnerable person in your environment “ concludes the teacher.

The same appeal had previously been addressed by Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias, asking those outside the Court of Appeals “from now on to be especially careful.” “It is a good day for democracy, it is not a bad day for public health,” he said.
