The history of the project
The E65 was designed as new highway of 181 km, that connects the existing Athens-Thessaloniki highway (at the height of Lamia) with the Egnatia Odos.
It was one of five roads auctioned with Concession contract in 2007. Due to the economic crisis in Greece, in 2011 it was decided, in consultation with the European Union, to implement the 77.5 km intermediate section of the highway (Xiniada – Trikala) and postpone the construction of the other two sections (North and South ).

North Section E65
