At a time when the government has confidently declared that schools will be ready and safe on the day of the start of the school year, the Central Union of Greek Municipalities is fighting year after year for students and teachers to have a canvas mask.
The problems seem to arise one by one since on the one hand there is a problem in the production, which is not enough for such a large demand and on the other hand the cancellations and small last minute problems intensify the anxiety about whether the masks (i.e. , this will correspond per student) will be delivered on time mainly in Attica.
KEDE President: Where there are problems about 56 hours before the first bell rings
KEDE President Dimitris Papastergiou speaking with in.gr explained where there are problems about 56 hours before the first bell rings.
According to Mr. Papastergiou, two trucks transporting school masks to Greece are currently blocked at the border with Bulgaria.
According to information, some 250,000 masks have been blocked, while according to what he explained the reason for the implication is that the authorities are not clear if this mask is medical material or not.
At the same time, Mr. Papastergiou emphasized that a road race is underway so that 1,600,000 masks are ready by Monday.
In particular, the big bet is that the school masks reach the most remote areas of Greece on time, while a road race is held to meet the demand in Attica.
“Production of the masks was delayed to start and for this reason we are now pushing for immediate delivery of all masks destined for Attica,” emphasized Mr. Papastergiou, adding that there are some doubts regarding the specification of certain batches. of masks and for this reason, KEDE is in constant communication with the Ministry of Education.
In any case, it is estimated that the masks will be distributed over the weekend in Attica, while a contest for the 1,600,000 masks has been held so far, and another is expected to be held next week.
However, another Region that will fight for everything to be ready for Monday is Thessaly. The competent bodies are expected to press there, while it seems that everything is ready in Crete, the Peloponnese, Epirus and Central Macedonia.
However, another problem is the fact that three skin vendors that did not meet all specifications were canceled at the last minute.
The suppliers were canceled by the Court of Auditors for formal reasons in the files submitted by the companies selected for the supply of masks.
However, according to Mr. Papastergiou, the specific suppliers had not delivered masks to the municipalities, so their cancellation did not cause great discomfort to the competent bodies.
Only one mask for each student on Monday
It is noted that today it was known that the objective now is to have a mask for each student and each teacher in the schools on Monday, while from next week the second batch of masks will be ready for the students. However, due to the great pressure and the problems that arise, it is a big question so far if they will finally be ready until the bell rings on Monday at 8.15am.
