The construction of the new fence with a total length of 27 km has started in the Fera area and the first pieces are already being installed.
This fence will not be continuous, like the existing one. The first 9 km will be laid in Feron’s “Petalo”, the next 15 km will cover the “Tsirozi Estate” area, while another 2.5 km will cover the “Nea Egnatia” area.
These are essentially unobserved points along the Greek-Turkish border, where the Evros River does not function as a natural border when Turkish territory “enters” west of the river.
It could be described as an important moment for Evros and that is why it will be the country’s prime minister in the region who will inaugurate the start of the works.
According to the information, Prime Minister Konstantinos Mitsotakis will visit the capital of Evros, on Saturday, October 17, while his return will take place the next day, Sunday, October 18, 2020, from Samothrace.
