One of the largest urban projects in the municipality of Trikala enters the final stretch. This is the “Plan of Asclepius”, which develops his entire philosophy around Asclepius and his myth. The primary sector, medicinal plants, education, the strengthening of the tertiary sector and the promotion of the work of Asclepio stand out.

This project is implemented in the village of Prinos, in the former municipality of Koziakas. The municipality of Trikala, as announced in this regard, uses municipal real estate, since all the actions of the project are implemented in and around the building that was destined – before “Kallikratis” – for the Municipality of Koziakas.

The total budget of the project amounts to 1,240,874.79 euros and the money comes from two sides:

– the “Antonis Tritsis” program of the Ministry of the Interior with 641,000 euros

– the Leader of the Ministry of Rural Development, with 599,874.79 euros.

What is the “Asclepius Plan”?

The Plan, in other words, uses aromatic and medicinal plants, emphasizes technology, creates a Digital Asclepieion and Asclepius Park, enhances educational activities. It is planned to essentially renovate the old Koziakas Town Hall (which never functioned as such) and turn it into a digital Asclepieion. The project concerns the surrounding area and the content of Digital Asclepieion.

The visitor will be able to share the work of Asclepius, the first doctor of the ancient Greek world, in combination with the Medicine course. At the same time, scientists will be able to delve into the science and use of medicinal plants.

In particular, a Productive Garden, a Garden of Thermal Plants, a Park of Asclepius, a Sacred Forest, a Flower Garden and Orchard are created. Innovative digital systems and applications are used to implement all these actions. The next stage of the project is the bidding process, so that the relevant work can be completed soon.

According to the mayor of Trikala and president of KEDE Dimitris Papastergiou, the main pillar of his program was the primary sector, with special emphasis, where, among other things, the creation of local producer groups was encouraged to create certified pharmaceutical and aromatic herbs. under the direction of Rutgers University, in collaboration with the Agricultural University of Athens and the American School of Agriculture, with an exclusive grant from the “Stavros Niarchos Foundation”.

While cooperation channels were built with the private sector, mother crops were created with wild rose, honeysuckle, cane and oregano. Especially for oregano, a relevant certification is expected for the Koziakas area. This is a complete plan of the municipality of Trikala, the design of which began in mid-2015, and aims to use the Asklipios brand and the natural space of the Koziakas mountain, from which the god of medicine extracted herbs, also points out the Mr. Papastergiou.
