There are seven crimes that occurred during 2020 across Crete and shocked the local community. The number may show a significant decrease from 2019 (12 crimes in total), but most were heinous, while in two cases there were two deaths.
Cretapost.gr collected the 7 crimes that were recorded in Crete, among them the double murder in Anogia and the double murder in Pasakaki, Chania.
Squad crime: coldly killed 79-year-old man
The first crime of 2020 takes place on January 15 in Moires, Heraklion and shocks the whole of Greece.
It all happened at night when a 51-year-old drunk went to the building where he knew his estranged wife was staying to look for her. He didn’t know exactly which house he was staying in and knocked on the downstairs door to ask for information. There were Costas Hatzakis, 79, the owner of the house, his 65-year-old wife and their 17-year-old grandson.
The 51-year-old was first seen by the 17-year-old who came out onto the terrace and then called his grandfather to tell him that someone strange was looking for a woman. The 79-year-old opened the door and spoke to the 51-year-old without giving him the information he was asking for.
The perpetrator without hesitation drew his weapon and shot Kostas Hatzakis in the head, resulting in instant death, while later shooting the 79-year-old man’s 65-year-old wife, wounding him in the shoulder and then opening fire on him building, fled in an unknown direction. The 51-year-old was arrested by the authorities the next morning and on January 21 he was sentenced to preventive detention with the consent of the investigator and the prosecutor.
Crime in Kourounes, Lassithi: 45-year-old man killed 73-year-old farmer
Real estate disputes between two families were the cause of the cold-blooded murder that took place on February 10 in Kourounes, Lassithi, the victim being 73-year-old Manolis Finokaliotis.
It all happened in the afternoon when the 73-year-old man along with his son and son-in-law were in their fold in the Peramela area. There they are found by the 43-year-old perpetrator who after an intense fight takes out his carbine and kills the 73-year-old while shooting his 45-year-old son with a bullet in the abdomen and shrapnel wounds his 53-year-old son-in-law. Then he enters his farm and leaves in an unknown direction.
On February 17, the 43-year-old was sentenced to preventive detention with the consent of the prosecutor and the investigator, while outside the courts there were angry relatives of the 73-year-old who, in the eyes of the perpetrator, exploded against him.
Brutal murder on Agios Nikolaos – His skull was melted with a hammer
The most brutal crime of 2020 took place on February 22 in Agios Nikolaos, Lassithi, when the body of a 23-year-old Pakistani was found on the beach in Almyros.
The perpetrators allegedly beat the victim with a hammer, melting the back of his skull, while cutting off his neck and ears with a knife. In fact, next to the body of the 23-year-old were the hammer and two knives.
Double murder in Anogia: Lefteris Kalomiris and George Xylouris are dead
The double murder that took place on May 2, in the middle of a confinement, in Perachori, Anogia, with the victims Lefteris Kalomiris, 63, and Giorgos Xylouris, 30, shocked the whole of Greece.
It all happened on Saturday night when the 30-year-old parked his vehicle in front of Kalomirides’s house with his 29-year-old son Kalomiris meeting him and the fight started. In fact, the 29-year-old allegedly hit George Xylouris, who then went home. A short time later, the 30-year-old, wielding a pistol, returns to Kalomirides’s house and a new fight begins in the presence of Lefteris, 29 and 63, who, according to testimonies, tried to separate them by saying “Stop! High!” Don’t get killed. “
But then there were exchanges of shots between the 30-man and the 29-year-old, resulting in the deaths of Lefteris Kalomiris and George Xylouris.
Double murder in Chania: an elderly couple was strangled
A double murder reminiscent of an episode in Kokkinopoulos took place in October 2020 in Pasakaki, Chania, the victim being an elderly couple. Location of the bodies: The case came to light on October 25 when the 79-year-old woman was found dead inside her home after being strangled with a handkerchief.
Investigations immediately begin with authorities directing their attention to the woman’s 82-year-old partner, whose traces had disappeared since Friday, October 23.
Finally, on the afternoon of Monday, October 26, the 82-year-old was found strangled in a suitcase in a house, next to the house of the older couple, who the 79-year-old rented to a 22-year-old man from Bangladesh. Finally, investigations showed that the perpetrator of the double murder was the 22-year-old Bangladeshi.
He stabbed his mother 15 times – He hurt his sister
On October 26, a 42-year-old man, under the influence of drugs, attacked his mother and sister with a knife at their home in Mastabas, Heraklion, and then injured himself.
The 92-year-old mother is transported in critical condition to Venizelio hospital where a few hours later she leaves her last breath while carrying 15 knives on her body.
Instead, his sister, who has knife wounds to her neck and upper extremities, is discharged for a time.
At the same time, the 42-year-old had to be hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit for suffering a deep chest injury.
A father stabbed his 26-year-old son
The bloody incident that occurred on Christmas Day in Therissos unfolded into a family tragedy.
A 55-year-old father and his 24-year-old son fought violently with the family’s oldest 26-year-old son, as a result of which the father wounded him with a knife.
The 26-year-old was taken to Venizelio hospital where a day later he succumbed to his injuries.
Both the father and the youngest son were arrested in the incident, and the 55-year-old is facing murder charges. On December 28, they apologized to the prosecutor and the investigator to decide on his preventive detention.
