Ten lawsuits involving more than 30 Facebook and social media groups, security investigations into masked demonstration organizers, and information analysis of their movements “Anti-masking”, in the context of the beginning of the new school year, make up the mosaic of Police actions for the movement against protection measures against coronavirus and the vaccine.
At the same time, for two weeks, the Athens Prosecutor’s Office has been conducting a preliminary examination for all the “incredible guys” who are shocking the world and spreading that there is no coronavirus or, in the best of cases, that it is nothing more than a simple flu. “They are all constructions of the great powers that want to” chip “to control us,” they say significantly.
The “professional reactionaries”, as EL.AS officers often call them, are spreading their networks across the country with weapons, groups and social media posts, fake news, but also conspiracy theories in which they skillfully serve. naive citizens. In fact, as the “patrols” of the Internet Cyber Crimes Prosecutor’s Office exploded, they were forced to change the form of communication and now calls to … war are made through closed groups that they create on WhatsApp, Viber and other encrypted communication applications.
Slowly, masked deniers appear on television, appearing as organizers of protests against the “muzzle of our children” and projecting the opinions of a few scientists who see the specific measure of protection from another angle. A typical case is the ice cream maker from the north who at the beginning of the year set up a barbecue with pork skewers outside the structures where Muslim immigrants are staying and now becomes an “anti-masked man” and organizes protest rallies in the White Tower.
Teams of 14,000 members and administrators
The Cybercrime Prosecutor’s Office has created a special team that surfs the Internet and finds strange profiles, groups and groups that urge parents and children not to wear masks and not to get vaccinated. The investigation was initiated by order of the Minister of Civil Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis, to bring to justice people who use the Internet to support “conspiracy theories”.
The first two Facebook groups were created shortly after August 15, when posts began about mandatory use of a mask by students at the beginning of the school year. It is characteristic that the first group managed to gather 14,000 members in a few days, while the other in just 48 hours gathered more than 2,500 followers. The specific service acted immediately and on August 20 prepared the first file, corresponding to three cases, and sent it to the Prosecutor’s Office. The results were immediate, as the group’s page with 14,000 members went down the next day, but new groups began to appear.
Today it is estimated that open groups on social networks (that is, those that are accessible to all users) reach thirty. Most of them are for actions throughout Greece, but there are also local groups made up of mask deniers for an area of Greece (for example, Komotini) or even a school. Thus, there are groups with thousands of members and others in which a few dozen or hundreds of citizens participate. In many cases, in these groups, administrators and members, in addition to posting and commenting, also make online calls asking people for dynamic reactions, while in many cases they urge parents to go down to the demonstrations taking their minor children. old. Of course without a mask, without distances and without any precautionary measures.
But who are the managers of these profiles on Facebook or other social networks? Security analysts still don’t have a complete picture of these “irresponsible,” as they call them, citizens. “When they are called one by one for a deposit, we will outline their profiles,” say the analysts, noting: “From the data so far, most of the 30 or so managers are people with a strong reactionary profile. In other words, they show a tendency to question all the decisions of the State, to see conspiracy theories everywhere and imagine that the great powers have proposed to chop the entire planet.
Of course, as the officials dealing with this issue point out, the administrators of the anti-mask and anti-vaccine pages believe everything they support. But they do not hesitate to play this dangerous game because they know that the crimes they commit are to some extent misdemeanors. “The crime is usually the incitement to disobey citizens, which is punishable by up to one year in prison.” When the trial is carried out in 3 or 4 years, they themselves believe that everything will have been forgotten, “says a policeman of security.
Of course, to protect themselves from the persecution, little by little they are beginning to invite group members to organize themselves through closed groups that they create in WhatsApp, Viber and other similar applications. So they talk, they exchange opinions, but the main thing is that they determine the next movements and dynamic reactions without the police of the Cyber Crimes Office being able to locate them.
Posters, rallies and the critical day
In the last ten days, the deniers of the mask have gone one step further. Protest demonstrations began in the central squares of cities across the country. Last weekend they managed to organize events in Athens, Thessaloniki, Heraklion, Patras, Larissa and Zakynthos. In fact, in the co-capital the day before they filled the city with posters and when the municipality downloaded them, within a few hours the organizers were in charge of installing new ones. The city attorney ordered the police to conduct a quick investigation to see if and what crimes were committed.
A case was filed in Heraklion and two women, aged 33 and 35, are accused of organizing the rally in a city where extraordinary restrictive measures are in force due to the coronavirus outbreak, which provide for: suspension of any event, any meeting of citizens over 9 people for any reason, both in public and private and mandatory use of a mask. Of course, all measures were violated. Young children also participated in protests against masks in schools, but the police in charge of the case say that the trend is not dynamic at the moment and that the people who come to protest are clearly few.
Already, from the first day the schools opened, the deniers of the mask tried to create problems and grow their movement. However, according to information and analysis of the special police team, “given that more than 95% of citizens accept the use of masks in schools, the movement is expected to weaken and then to zero.”
Similar movements against the mask have been created in other countries. Mainly in Spain, Italy and the United States. However, so far no member communication or joint action has been recorded.
