New positive news emerged on Monday in the fight against the coronavirus, according to the US company Modern announced that the vaccine it has created and is testing has shown 95% efficacy against coronavirus.

This development follows similar results announced a week ago by Pfizer, with an effectiveness of its own vaccine that reaches 90%.

Both companies used a highly innovative and experimental approach to the design of their vaccines.

Moderna says she is a “Beautiful day” and he intends to request approval to use the vaccine in the coming weeks.

However, these are still initial data and key questions about the vaccine remain unanswered.

They participated in the tests 30,000 people in the United Stateswhile half of them received two doses of the vaccine, four weeks apart. The rest were subjected to placebo.

Moderna’s analysis was based on the first 95 tests that showed symptoms of Covid-19.

Only five of the Covid cases occurred in people who received the vaccine and 90 in those who received placebo treatment. The company says the vaccine protects 94.5%.

“The overall efficiency was remarkable … it’s a wonderful day”said his chief medical adviser Modern, Tal Zaks.

What is yet to be determined is how long the immunity will last. There is also no data on how well the vaccine works in older age groups, who are at higher risk of dying from the infection.

However, Zaks told the BBC that the evidence so far showed that the vaccine “does not appear to be losing its effect” with age. And it is also not known whether the vaccine simply prevents people from getting seriously ill or whether it also prevents them from spreading the virus.

When it comes to your safety, no major concerns have been reported; however, nothing, including acetaminophen, is 100% safe until tested.

Shortness of breath, headache, and pain have been reported in some patients after vaccination.

“We expected these results in a vaccine that works and elicits a good immune response.”said the teacher Peter openshaw, from Imperial College London.

Compared to the Pfizer vaccine, the Moderna vaccine appears to be easier to store, as it remains stable at -20 ° C for up to six months and can be stored in a normal refrigerator for up to a month.

In contrast, the Pfizer vaccine should be stored at around -75 ° C, but can be refrigerated for five days.

The Russian Sputnik V vaccine also released very early data suggesting that it is 92% effective.

Regarding the estimated release time, the Modern said it would be applied to US regulators in the coming weeks and hopes it will initially be available 20 million doses in the country.

The company expects to have up to 1 billion quotas available for use around the world next year and plans to seek approval in other countries.

The UK government is still negotiating with Moderna, as the vaccine is not one of the six it has already ordered.
