The United States posted a record of new coronavirus infections in a 24-hour period on Friday, with at least 225,201 confirmed cases of SARS-CoV-2, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.
More than 2,500 dead
During the same period, more than 2,500 deaths from Covid-19 were recorded, according to data collected by the Baltimore School of Medicine and examined by the French Agency at 8:30 p.m. (local time).
The United States, which faces a terrifying new pandemic in several weeks, surpassed the limit of 200,000 cases three times in one day last month.
Public health experts and officials had warned that the relocation of millions of Americans last week for Thanksgiving would cause a rapid increase in cases.
In the past two weeks, deaths have frequently exceeded 2,000 a day, as in the spring, at the height of the pandemic.
Imports are increasing
The number of patients admitted to US hospitals with Covid-19 also continues to grow, especially in the four most populous states (California, Florida, New York, Texas), according to the Covid Tracking Project.
To date, the new coronavirus pandemic in the United States, the country that suffers by far the most affected in absolute terms, amounts to more than 278,000 deaths out of a total of 14.3 million infections.
