A fierce fight has broken out in the last few hours within SYRIZA by the attitude of the party in matters relating to the Greek police.
The reason for the new conflict was his energy. Christos Spirtzis present a parliamentary amendment for extraordinary financial support to ELAS staff, a few hours after SYRIZA’s complaints about “police arbitrariness”. According to the information, there was an immediate reaction from several executives, including Nikos Filis, Euclid Tsakalotos, Nikos Bistis, Panos Lambrou Y Panagiotis Rigas which demanded the withdrawal of the text.
The same sources state that to avoid the fiasco caused by the withdrawal of the amendment, the peculiar solution of the correction with the inclusion of doctors and nurses in the beneficiaries extraordinary allowance.
It should be noted that Mr. Spirtzis, Head of Public Order of the official opposition, asked the leadership of the Ministry of Citizen Protection for “extraordinary financial support equivalent to the payment of a basic monthly salary to the staff of EL.AS. and Detention Centers” , highlighting in the explanatory statement that the state must recognize “the extremely difficult task and the outstanding social contribution of police officers, prison staff, external guards and prisons in the crucial battle against the pandemic coronavirus».
It should be noted, however, that Mr. Spirtzis, at the time of presenting the amendment, launched a fierce attack on ELAS for the phenomena of violence and arbitrariness and for the “pockets of the extreme right” that, he said, remain within it.
On the other hand, Mr. Rigas pointed out through Facebook: “When society is in financial trouble and does not know how it will survive the next day.” When Thousands of workers have had their wages cut, when workers have zero income due to the pandemic, when many public sector workers have been pressured to offer social work, when the armed forces one year today offer national and social work under adverse conditions. It is not fair and politically correct for SYRIZA MPs to choose to submit an amendment for a police assignment. “
With these data and although the SYRIZA amendment must be presented to the Plenary of Parliament tomorrow (after the government has rejected it), the “salmon solution” in which the party body is working, according to the information, is to present the amendment, which, however, will request the one-time payment of an emergency allowance before the holidays to all workers who are in the front line of the pandemic, that is, uniformed, doctors (doctors and nurses), teams of the EKAB, etc., so that this one-time allocation is a small moral reward for your contribution to the “war” with the coronavirus.
