Sypsas at SKAI: Horizontal implementation of new measures in Attica-masks students

Horizontally, in all Attica and not in specific municipalities, the restrictive measures that will be announced today will be applied, according to the professor of Infectious Diseases and member of the Committee, Nikos Sypsas, in statements to SKAI and the TODAY show. As indicated, the measures proposed by the Commission to the State have nothing to do with the number of cases or with the Ro index, which continues below 1, around 0.89.

“What brings us to the new measures are certain quality characteristics of the epidemic in Attica, such as the number of intubations, the number of hospitalizations, the large population and the density of the population. We must protect schools in advance. It is not a generalized lockdown, but rather restrictive measures that concern the whole of Attica, horizontally throughout Attica, ”he said, adding that they are expected to be applied until the end of the month and until there is a decrease in the number of cases.

According to Mr. Sypsas, the fact that 60% of ICU beds in Attica are already covered is a matter of concern for the scientific community, although these beds will increase immediately, as well as the fact that cases affect old people. “They no longer refer to the 20-30 years that were the summer, but they are increasing and now we are going to the ages of 35 to 55. We are concerned about the increase in the age of the cases, because the older the person, the greater the risk that the disease will be more serious. We must prevent situations. In addition to the influx, there is dispersion in the community. We will do everything possible to protect the schools, so that they do not close ”, he stressed.

Regarding the masks that were distributed yesterday in the country’s schools, the professor pointed out that those who made them were “lost in translation” wondering how it is possible to produce so many masks without trying them. According to him, the Commission had given dimensional instructions, writing that this is the mask before folding, that is, the original piece of fabric before sewing, without the pleats. However, this was not translated correctly and in the end they put the wrong dimensions on the final product. Because I read the final text, it was clear, although it could be even clearer, why it was aimed at professionals. If I made a mask, before making a million, I would take one to put it on my face ”, he pointed out and reiterated that the mandatory use of a mask for students will apply for the entire school year.
