Six Metro stations (lines 1,2,3) were closed by order of the Greek Police, in the context of their measures to restrict traffic and avoid congestion.

The measures that apply on New Years Eve and New Years
From 22:00 to 5:00 in the morning, transit is prohibited, except for reasons of health, work and a pet’s walk, according to the Police. During this period, there may be traffic interruptions on the main roads, both in Athens and in other major cities, to control all vehicles without exception.

Chrysochoidis: There will be no car after 10pm
Michalis Chrysochoidis, speaking yesterday on the SKAI television channel, said that there will be checks and locks everywhere. The Minister of Civil Protection was blunt when saying that “after 10 pm there will be no car.” and how there will be “universal checks on New Years Eve”.
The plan to implement strict restrictive measures to control the pandemic before the New Year was discussed in a government teleconference held this morning, with the participation of senior ministers and government officials.
Specifically, the discussed plan is moving according to a government announcement on the model of the Christmas plan, especially for the afternoon hours of the time change when the traffic ban is still in effect.
That is, strict controls will be carried out at all levels by the competent authorities to prevent the spread of the coronavirus by synchronicity, and as they used to say, “the police will change the time on the streets.”
During the teleconference it was highlighted that the phenomenon has been observed that some people with various excuses have gone on vacation to various destinations. For this, it was decided to show special rigor in the controls at the gates of the country and to observe, without exception, all protocols and restrictive quarantine measures.
