A swimmer succumbed to serious injuries after being attacked by a shark on a beach in northwestern Australia. The 55-year-old was reportedly swimming at Cable Beach, a popular beach on the northern coast of the Western Australian state, when he was attacked by a shark. With the help of other bathers, he got out of the water and despite the first aid given by rescuers, he succumbed to his injuries.
In a press release, the state police confirmed his death “under tragic circumstances.” Shark attacks are rare on Cable Beach, a massive 14-mile white sand beach near the city of Broome. Usually, the authorities are forced to close this beach once or twice a year, due to the presence of saltwater crocodiles, which are dangerous to humans. This is the eighth deadly shark attack since the beginning of the year in Australia.
