Strong earthquake in Japan: tsunami warning

A strong earthquake measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale shook the city of Honshu in northeastern Japan on Saturday afternoon (local time), while a tsunami warning was issued, according to the French Agency (AFP).

The Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami alert, while the Japanese state network NHK warned residents that one meter wave is expected in Miyagi prefecture.

As a precaution, people close to coastal areas were advised to move to higher ground.

the American Institute of Geological Studies (USGS) gave a measurement of 7.0 on the Richter scale, focusing on the 24 km area east-northeast of Isinomaki province and a focal depth of 54 km.

The same measurement was given by the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), with an epicenter 25 km northeast of the Isinomaki province and a focal depth of 60 km.
