The government is considering giving a social dividend to thousands of beneficiaries this year, despite the fact that the budget will show large deficits as a result of the loss of income from the economic effects of the coronavirus.
Dividend will be given in december vulnerable social groups, however who will receive it has not yet been finalized, according to the Star.
According to the information, the Ministry of Finance is considering the following scenarios:
- It will be given to low-income retirees, that is, those with pensions of less than 1,000 euros, who have been excluded from the retrospectives for the period June 2015 – May 2016.
- To be delivered to workers who have been and continue to be affected by the pandemic and economic consequences, as well as the unemployed.
Final decisions expected have been taken before the end of November, since the final draft of the 2021 budget will be presented to Parliament in the third ten days.
It is observed that in December 2019 a social dividend was paid to 270,000 beneficiaries of special categories, while in December 2018 a dividend of the surplus was paid to more than 1,600,000 people.
However, it should be noted that in 2019 the previous government had already paid a social dividend to low-income citizens at Easter 2019.
