Slovenia: 22-year-old in prison, mutilated just for compensation – World

A 22-year-old Slovenian woman was sentenced to 2 years in prison for cutting her arm with a band saw, expecting to receive compensation of almost 400,000 euros from insurance companies.

Her partner, 30, was sentenced to 3 years in prison for forcing her to mutilate herself, the STA news agency reported.

According to the News Agency of Athens and Macedonia, Julia Andlesic, who cut one of her wrists, directed the “accident” together with three other people to receive compensation of 380,000 euros. She would also receive a disability pension of 3,000 euros per month for the rest of her life.

The young woman and her accomplices had contracts with five different insurance companies.

After her amputation, Julia was transported by her friends to a hospital, but without her amputated arm, as they wanted to obtain a permanent disability in order to receive as much compensation as possible. However, authorities found the hand in time and the doctors managed to replace it.

Note that the average salary in Slovenia is around 1,000 euros.
