SKAI visited the … Mirage nest in Tanagra to fly with the Air Force “hawks” on an interception flight, like the ones that take place every day in the Aegean.
SKAI’s military editor Stavros Ioannidis had the opportunity to fly the Mirage 2000-5 and experience a real air battle, but also the tough preparation of the flight on the part of the air force people, pilots and engineers.
The lid closes and the combat wheels. The warden, Athanasios Tountas, prepares to take off.
The Mirage launches into the sky with terrifying power.
Above the clouds, the aerial battle maneuvers begin. This is the dangerous and demanding daily life of pilots.
The preparations for this flight have been preceded by hours of preparation. Helmet, life jacket and anti-G shape.
Mirages are the strategic weapons of the Air Force. Pilots and engineers are their soul and since July they have been on constant alert due to the Turkish challenges.
“Our work is our life and we will continue to do so. And with the help of God and our fellow men, we will move forward. I promise you this,” Operations Officer 331 MPK Theseus tells SKAI.
After a 45 minute flight, the Mirage returns to Tanagra Air Base.
The message of deterrence is carried on a daily basis by people who have dedicated their lives to defending the Greek skies.
